Near the end of 2014, the Chairman of the Cambridgeshire Squash Rackets Association, Howard Mason, asked me if I would like to be the League Secretary for the Cambridgeshire leagues. Slightly unsure of what I had signed myself up for, six months later, I found myself at the helm of the four mixed divisions and two ladies divisions that constitute the Cambridgeshire team squash leagues, around 50 teams.

After quite a bit of wrestling with the software that allows the results to be entered and displayed online, and very many emails from various team captains, the allocation of teams between divisions was finalised, the fixture schedule was drawn up, adjusted and confirmed, teams submitted their players’ details, and results started pouring in from across the country.

I wanted to get more involved in the squash community, and contribute as much as I could, since I have benefitted so much personally from playing squash. I want to breathe life into the currently declining sport, and, to the extent to which I can make a difference as just one individual, on a local level, I directed my efforts to running a well-organised league for the enjoyment of the players, as well as providing the infrastructure for increased integration and communication between clubs and players in different areas of Cambridgeshire as part of a cohesive whole.

I hope that all the players have enjoyed their first couple of matches, and that the season ahead is a successful one! Check out the results and fixtures at SquashNet.
